Places To Find Record Player Needles

By Scott Schmidt

A number of people still own and enjoy playing vinyl records and will own a turntable to play them on. Due to the fact that most audio is now mp3 or compact disc, the spare parts for some equipment may be harder to find. If you need to find record player needles, there are a few places where you can find what you need and a little careful research should be done.

A turntable stylus is probably the most important component as it will deliver the sound from the disc. If your needle is worn, it will produce a poor sound and can also cause damage to your vinyl records. Many types of stylus have been produced and it is important that you fit one that will be suitable for your particular model of audio equipment.

One of the best sources for a replacement stylus is a professional turntable dealer which can be found on many high streets. These retailers will usually carry a comprehensive stock of spare needles and will usually have one that is suitable. If they do not have a match in stock, they can usually contact a manufacturer, and place an order for you.

Another useful place to find a needle is on the net and there are many firms who now trade online that can supply them. You will need a serial number and then start searching through their lists of stock to find a match. If you do not have any numbers, you can email them a detailed photo and they may still be able to supply one. When you buy an item online, you should be aware that shipping charges will be added on to your order.

If you are unable to find a compatible stylus from a retailer then you can try looking at an online auction site. Many of the sites will have long lists of needles for sale and they can often be purchased at lower prices. If the stylus you are looking for is hard to find or costly, it is a good idea to speak to the seller, before you bid on the item.

Second hand stores can be a useful place to find spares for turntables that are no longer in production. Many junk shops will have old sound equipment so it can be well worth stopping by to check. If you can find a match there, it is advisable to buy the whole deck, in case you need other spares in the future.

When you have to replace a needle you should use a factory original if at all possible. In many cases, your maker will still be trading and you can buy from them to ensure you are getting a suitable match. If they are unable to supply a stylus, the may still be able to assist you with your search by advising you where to look.

When you can find a stylus that you have been searching for it is worth buying a couple as they will wear out with regular use. When you have had difficulty finding a compatible needle, buying a few extra ones will save you a lot of time in the future. Always ensure that your new needles are stored in their box or are fitted to the your deck to prevent any damage.
