Huge Gains From Used Pallet Racks

By Raymond Olson

In many industries where warehousing and storage is of great importance, and establishing a storage system is essential. Storage costs can sometimes become a big challenge especially for businesses dealing with non-perishable commodities. To cut down on storage costs, a viable option would be to introduce a pallet racking system. While installing a new racking system may attract a considerably high cost, you can install used pallet racks. While installing old pallets attracts a lower cost, it is on the side easy and fast.

Usually, individual pallets are constructed from wood, plastic or metals, and are then merged into a racking system with shelves on various levels. Forklifts play and important role in this storage system since they are used in the loading process. Some racking systems in big storage facilities and warehouses are several feet high making forklifts an indispensable equipment.

There are various types of racking systems. Selective racking system is the commonly used today. This system enables access to the pallets in the structure from the aisles. The system is commonly used since it incorporate other storage types such as aisles, standard and deep reach system. Specialized lift trucks are required for this system because the aisles are narrow.

The other type of racking system is known as drive-in and drive-through system. These systems are a good fit for a high-density storage because they are constructed from steel. The spaces in this structures make it possible for the forklifts to move to the bay. The drive-in systems have one entry and the drive-through structures consist of an entry on each side. The variation in the entryway highly influences how materials are stored. For example, the last loaded materials in the drive-in system leave first making them suitable for nonperishable commodities. With a drive-through system, the first loaded material leaves out first.

Another racking arrangement is the push back system. This arrangement is ideal for bulky items since they can store products that occupy a number of pallets deep and several levels high. This system works in such a way that, once a pallet is loaded, it moves the next one back to rest on the rails. At the same time, once unloaded they are then pushed back to the structure at the front. This storage arrangement is appropriate for large storage.

There huge benefits offered by the racking systems. A key benefit is that you are able to save storage space. Businesses dealing with logistics and delivery can utilize the saved space to put more items. Efficiency is also improved in the stacking arrangements since the valuable space in the floor is avoided.

Safety is another key benefit of this storage system. The high-quality items need to be stored on safe structures. Pallets provide maximum safety, reliability and strength adding safety and security in the storage structure. As a result individuals and inventory in the warehouse remains safe and secure.

It is also a cost efficient and inexpensive storage system that is affordable for organizing your inventory. Even a old racking system has long-term benefits that far outweighs the damage or lost time due to lack of an efficient system.
