The thing about knowledge is that it is not something that is inherent to most people. Sure, there are some things that a person will know on instinct. In many job fairs, the companies that want to set themselves up as awesome places to work will give out things like caps and pens. The former should be easy to find with the internet, and the latter can be accomplished with the internet. The latter option comes with the added convenience of not having to leave the house.

But that material is not provided for free. Merchants are businesses, and those things usually have to pay operating costs and compensate their employees. If neither of those things are done, then they can cease to function entirely, since the lights will not stay on and those employees are not going to do any work free of charge.

Then there is the question of reliability. Oftentimes, a con artist will say they have X when they really have Y, but Y is not as good as X. The customer is paying for X, but they are not receiving the items that they paid good money for. A little research on a merchant should be done before deciding to do business with them.

Now, on to the issue of volume. Because of what the product is used for, there is a very good chance that a client is going to want a fair amount of the item. That is doable for some dealers, but not for others. Discussing orders before any payments are made is a great way to avoid the other party making a promise they cannot keep.

The thing about living in the world is that it was never meant to be all that easy. However, humanity was stubborn enough to work around the difficulty. They managed to do a hard job.
