Purpose Of A Case Manager In Injury Case Management

By Angela Davis

When someone you care about has had an accident and is injured you can appoint yourself to be their case manager. This management is a task one can undertake when an injury occurs. It involves a lot of research and more time is dedicated trying to manage the damage. In injury case management a specialist is required to help those patients with severe injuries maintain their needs.

Information and facts regarding the injury act like a catalyst to the change you would want to see. The managers should be well equipped with information so that they can comfortably guide the patient on the right direction towards their recovery. Some injuries like those of the brain can make the life of a patient to be difficult. Thus the more facts you have the more the patient sees that road to recovery.

Keeping the record of the progress that patients are making is important. One should note down the dates, time and any emails sent to patients by the doctor. This acts as a constant reminder of the patient on the days they have seen a therapist or a doctor. Noting down these things is crucial especially for patients suffering from brain damages. They can refer to the book often for any reminder.

Those who have experienced serious injuries could require experts to eliminate suicidal thoughts they could have. After going through such a difficult experience reintegrating back to the community could be challenging. Some feel like they have lost everything in life. Being very delicate in such times cause them to experience social and health issues thus they need to talk to someone.

Mediation is required especially between brain-damaged patients and their family members. These managers are able to let the family members know what their patient can and cannot do. They are also able to tell them what they need to urge the patient to learn doing by themselves. They talk to the family members when intervention is needed.

They research on the activities these individuals can do on their daily basis. Just because they are suffering from severe injuries does not mean that they should be kept away from fun activities. Case managers collect information on various local activities they can be involved in using the local resources available. They also encourage them to be involved in any interests they have.

Case managers can help in recruiting and maintaining the required staff to take care of their patient even after they leave the hospital. They help in introducing remedial activities that patients would require when at home. In a situation where patient needs to talk to a therapy these managers would bring one at the comfort of their homes.

Most of these injuries are irreversible and the only thing left is to manage them. Special things could be needed for patients with spinal and brain injuries and these individuals need to be well taken care of for the rest of their lives. Management cases for these injuries by experts or by individuals anticipate and manage the outcome of the care being delivered.
