Why SIPS Panels For Roofs Are Excellent

By Carolyn Olson

Green and ergonomic requirements have created better building materials all around, installable on any part of a structure. These are items that create more space, are durable and delivered with the correct measurement specifications. Most modern construction is going the way of ecofriendliness, efficiency and economy, and these go for the material under discussion.

Structural insulated panels are a flexible material, and can be installed on walls, ceiling or floors. SIPS panels for roofs are new things for construction, and they are made of great composites and their technology. SIPs are now being studied by all companies involved in the trade, whether for use in extensions, renovations, replacement or new construction.

The house roof has several important duties, and one of these is providing the main defense against extremes of weather. It is tasked to keep off high winds, strong rain and heavy snowfall. This is answered by a complicated structure, with layers and frameworks on the outside and inside, but change is coming with the use of SIPs which can lessen the need for support structures.

Presizing SIP units will make them fit well into the wall ridge and beam gaps, needing no other supporting installs. So support beams and frameworks can be taken off the big picture for most kinds of roofing concerns. SIPs, then, have become the amazing new thing that has captured the imagination of housing and building specialists.

SIPs can be used in any roof construction style, and more uses for them are made each day. Other than eliminating trusses and frame support, they can also make ceilings redundant, because they provide their own extra protection and insulation. This last is another thing about SIPs, they can clear out good space between floors and roofs.

Thus, a home with the panels installed can accommodate more things, have more space for installations and storage, or could be part high vaulted ceilings. This economy of space and construction materials will give owners more savings as well as airy spaces. The panels are already doublewalled and thus provide good protection to occupants of a structure.

The basic makeup of one panel is in three layers, the two outside ones being sandwiching material or structural facing often made of oriented strand board or OSB. Between these two layers is a rigid foam plastic filling that provides much of the insulation needed for the indoors. This works perfectly for extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures.

The SIPs are excellent for any kind of residential or light commercial usage. These will completely replace older systems that seem and are clunky in comparison, with many extra baggage for support, insulation, extensions and even cladding. The panels can be added on as cladding on woodwork, beams and other support structures.

The flexibility of this material is excellent for all types of designs, like mansard roofs, gables and hipped installations. A combination of strong composite layers and insulation material gives excellent grades on all qualities needed for roofing structures. This subject can be studied through online means, with many sites that feature good views of the amazing new panels.
