The Benefits Of TSA Rules

By Lisa Wallace

Some passengers prefer carrying certain commodities within their carry-on bags. One of reasons is to reduce baggage fees. Others use them for security reasons especially when dealing with highly valuable items. However, size and items within carry-on are inspected thoroughly before being carried on-board. There are a number of restrictions, which have been put in place in order to control size and types of carry-on getting into aircraft. Airport security does not allow items or people who go against TSA rules to be carried on-board.

Some of personal items that are allowed into plane include small musical instruments, laptop bags and diaper bags. Airlines set size limits for carry-on. This means size limits of carry-on varies with airlines. During determination of overall dimensions of the concerned items, height, width and the length are added together. If you intend to travel, it is advisable to consult with airline to use in order to understand on issues concerning size requirements.

There are various groups of items, which Transportation Security Administration do not allow them placed within carry-on. Such commodities are confiscated as soon as they are noticed. Weapons are some of prohibited items. Swords, guns and knives are categorized as weapons and are not allowed in planes. Other prohibited items include; baseball bats, hockey sticks, saws and hammers. Explosives like torch lighters and strike-anywhere matches are prohibited too.

Some liquid types can be transported while others cannot. Safe liquids are carried especially if they have been placed in containers that are clear. Planes do not carry liquids on board in case their volume exceeds the limit. Types of liquids transported are; toothpaste, medication, shampoo, breast milk and perfumes. Video recorders, game systems and even laptops should be screened while are out of carry-on bags before are allowed onto aircraft. Digital readers and also digital cameras must be inspected while within carry-on.

TSA regulations clearly outline types of toiletries and cosmetics that can be carried onto aircraft. It is true that passengers are allowed to keep most toiletries and makeup close to them while flying. Cosmetics in liquid form like nail polish, moisturizers and eyeliners should not exceed quantity which has been set. Lipsticks, blushes and powders are makeup that is in non-liquid form. Passengers are required to keep non-liquid make up well arranged within their bags.

Most toiletries whether in liquid form or in aerosol form are screened thoroughly. Their quantity is checked clearly to ensure it is below the limit. Examples of toiletries are; liquid soap, saline solution, toothpaste, mouthwash, hairstyling gel and hairspray. Sharp objects categorized as cosmetics and allowed onto aircraft are tweezers, nail clippers, scissors and razor blades. Such objects should be wrapped well to make sure they do not cause injuries to persons involved in screening activity.

TSA performs activities like intelligent-based screening, physical screening, monitoring and inspections. Employees work around the clock to make sure weapons, explosives and other dangerous items are carried on-board. Service providers screen passengers in order to make sure terrorists do not get into aircraft.

Transportation Security Administration uses technology and intelligent information to improve its service delivery in transportation systems. Vigilant and dedicated employees have helped TSA perform its activities correctly and in the right manner. However, TSA faces a lot challenges in it is efforts of executing its mandate. Nowadays, terrorists are taking advantage of improved technology to skip security traps.
